Day 12: Stripes

Hey girls,

I had to take a little break from blogging to deal with some personal problems but I'm back with day 12 from the 31 day challenge! This challenge is stripes. I really like striped nail art but  unfortunately I'm awful with a striper brush. Luckily I have the Fab ur Nails QA3 plate to help me with this! I started off by painting all my nails with 3 coats of OPI - Russian Navy, a beautiful vampy blue which everyone should own. Then I used QA3 to stamp a few white stripes at the base of my index- and ringfinger. For the rest of my nails I used China Glaze - 2030 and Cheeky plate CH36 to stamp a cute anchor design.

Unfortunately summer is already over but these nails make me think of hot summer days by the sea. Have you tried nautical nail art before?

Day 11: Polka Dots

Hey girls,

Today’s challenge is Polka dots! I like polka dot nails but I wanted to do something original with it. While thinking about what to do, the postman came by to FINALLY bring me the new summer image plate set by Cheeky! If you haven’t ordered it yet, I suggest you do it right away because this set contains some seriously cute designs! My eye was immediately drawn to the strawberry pattern on CH42 so I decided to use this one.

I started off by painting my index and ring finger with Chanel – April and the rest of my nails with China Glaze – Something Sweet. I then used a dotting tool to create the dots on my index and ring finger, using China Glaze – Something Sweet. Then I stamped the strawberry design from CH42 on the other nails using Chanel – April. Then I painted the leaves of the strawberries using Essence – Trust in fashion. I’m really happy with the end result!

What do you guys think?

Day 10: Gradient Nails

Hey girls,

Today’s challenge is gradient nails! I really love gradient nails, it has such a unique effect. My first one was with pastel colours over white which gave it a nice, soft look. The only thing I didn’t like was the white showing up where I had cleaned around my cuticles. So this time I wanted to use vibrant  colours for a summer look.

I started off with 3 thin layers of Chanel – June, a lovely orange. I then created the gradient with Rimmel – Hot, a neon pink. I absolutely love this colour combination.

What do you think?

-Steffie

Day 9: Rainbow Nails

Hey girls,

Today’s challenge is rainbow nails! I had no original idea whatsoever so I decided to just paint rainbow skittles and top it with a holographic glitter topcoat. Not my best, but they can’t all be great right? On the pictures you can’t really tell the difference between the green and blue but it was clearly noticeable in real life.

The polishes I used are:

China Glaze – Something Sweet
Model’s own – Lemon Meringue
China Glaze – Peppermint
Barry M – Blue Moon
China Glaze – Light as air
China Glaze – Techno

Day 8: Metallic Nails

Hey girls!

Today’s challenge is Metallic Nails! I hardly ever wear metallic polish, it’s just not my cup of tea. So I started digging in my stash and I found a magnetic polish I hadn’t used yet! The polish is called Electro-Midnight and is from the Magnetic Force collection by Color Club. The polishes come with one wavy magnet on the lid. I own this one and a purple one, Hipnotic, which I actually like better. I chose this one because the finish looks more metallic than Hipnotic.

I applied two coats and used the magnet on the second coat. The magnet works fine, you can see the metal particles move around as soon as you hold it over your nail. The pattern on this one is less apparent than it was with Hipnotic but it still gives a nice effect and a sense of depth.

Thanks for watching!

Day 7: Black & White nails

Hey girls!

Today’s challenge is Black and White nails. Ever since I first saw a picture of Lynnderella’s Connect the Dots I have been obsessing about it! I’ve tried for a very long time to get a hold of it but it is insanely hard. Then I heard of a dupe called Sticks and Stones by Cover band. I feel bad for Lynnderella because she came up with it and I completely understand she cannot handle the immense interest in this polish. But I’ve tried for so long, so I decided to get the dupe anyway. And boy am I happy I did! I absolutely L O V E this polish! It looks great over any polish and I really enjoy wearing it!

Here I am wearing it over China Glaze – For Audrey. So what do you guys think of black and white glitter polishes? Do you own any?

Day 6: Violet Nails

Hey girls!

Today’s challenge is Violet Nails! I knew exactly which polish I wanted to use: China Glaze – Light as air from the Up & Away collection. This is a very girly pastel purple and I usually pair it with lace designs or flowers but today I wanted to give it a more edgy look.

Excuse the little cut on my pinky finger, cut myself while preparing dinner yesterday :(

So I stamped the snakeskin design from Bundle Monster BM215 on my nails using P2 – Call Me!. To make the snake pattern look more realistic I stamped the design again but this time using China Glaze – 2230. I tried to stamp the second pattern in a different angle than the first one so that you can still see the first stamp.

I really like the outcome! Have you tried double-stamping before?

Day 5: Blue Nails

Hey girls!

Today’s challenge is Blue Nails! I started off my manicure with two coats of OPI – Russian Navy, a beautiful vampy blue. Then I topped it with Essence – Blue addicted, which is a perfect dupe of Deborah Lippmann – Across the Universe. It is a navy base with large green and blue hexagons and blue glitter. The bad news is that Essence just revamped their nail polish collection and discontinued this colour. I wish I had bought some back-ups! But luckily, if I run out and decide I can’t live without it, I can still get the Deborah Lippmann one.

This looks absolutely amazing in sunlight! From a distance it looks like semi-precious stones all over your nails, it’s that sparkly!

What do you guys think? Do you own this Essence polish or the Deborah Lippmann one?

Day 4: Green Nails

Hey girls!

Today’s challenge is green nails. I am a huge fan of mint green polishes and as you may have noticed, I wear them a lot! So for this challenge I wanted to try a different shade of green. Essence cosmetics released a fruit themed temporary collection in April and it included some really cute polishes, one of which is green! This polish is called One Kiwi a day and it is an apple green crème polish with green/teal micro glitter. The base is a bit sheer which allows glitter from previous layers to still be visible underneath the coat. Here I am wearing 3 coats.

The collection also included fruit fimo slices so I decided to add two kiwi slices and one lemon slice to my ring finger to create an accent nail. I also added a few rhinestones in between the slices. I usually don’t like 3D nail art on me but this looks quite cute! Because summer is sadly almost over, it is nice to wear something summer related on my nails!

Thanks for viewing, please let me know what you think!

Day 3: Yellow Nails

Hey Girls!

This is day 3 of the 31 day challenge and that means Yellow Nails! I don’t own a lot of yellow polishes but Models Own – Lemon Meringue is definitely my favourite. It is a very soft yellow colour which is very flattering on most people.

I was in the mood for a bit of “in-your-face” nail art so I added a dripping effect with Eyeko – Lilac polish on the thumb and ring finger. Then I stamped the sweets design from Konad Q1 on my pinky and index finger. To finish I stamped the Bubbles image from Fab Ur Nails plate FUN1 on my middle finger and added some colour. I absolutely love this mani! I think it looks really cute :)

That’s all for today!

Day 2: Orange Nails

Hey girls,

I’m very sorry I didn’t upload anything on Monday, this was because my dog Ella caught some sort of a virus and was seriously ill. She had some diarrhea during the weekend but we didn’t think much of it because she has that every now and then. However, on Monday she was also throwing up and both the vomit and droppings contained a lot of blood. So she was rushed to the vet who told us she was seriously ill and if we didn’t act now she was probably going to die. She was dehydrated so she got four hours of IV therapy (drip) and about 7 injections. On Tuesday she got another 1,5 hour of IV therapy and today she is doing a lot better fortunately! She wasn’t allowed to eat or drink on Monday and Tuesday but today we are carefully starting to give her easily digestible food again ( I cooked rice and chicken ) and she seems a lot happier now! I hope you all understand.

Normal daylight

Okay so back to nails, that is what you are here for I suppose! Day two is Orange Nails and I can honestly say that orange is my least favourite colour to wear on my nails, I only wear it on Halloween.  But I’ve been wanting to try out an orange nail polish I bought not too long ago.

Shade

This is China Glaze – Riveting from the Colors of the Capitol collection which was inspired by the Hunger Games. This is a bright ( almost neon ) orange jelly with gold glass flecks. This colours seems to glow in the shade already but once the sun hits it, it is as if your nails are on fire! This was definitely the star of the collection and even though I don’t like orange, I think this is an amazing polish!

Sunlight

Do you own China Glaze – Riveting?

Day 1: Red Nails

I decided to try the 31 day nail challenge! I think this will help me try out new things/colours that I would not have tried otherwise and I think this is a great way to help me be more original and inspired. This challenge was popular last year but I see more and more other Bloggers trying this out now.
This is the challenge:

I’m not going to finish this in 31 days because I think that would be a waste of polish and I don‘t think it is very good for your nails to change your polish every day. So I will post 2 or 3 times a week, as usual. The first few days are specific colours and I realised that I hardly every “just” wear nail polish! I always add some stamping or other nail art to spice it up. So I decided to start off with just a wee bit of nail art and to let the focus be on the polish itself.

So the first day is Red Nails! Although I really like red nails, I don’t have that many red polishes. I think that is because once you have a sparkly, a bright and a dark red you are pretty much good to go. So I had a look inside my stash and found a red polish I never wore before. This polish is called Red Pearl and is from P2’s limited edition Black Deluxe collection. The other two polishes in this collection are breathtaking and this one gets pushed to the back because of this but it is a great polish nevertheless.

It is a medium red with tiny red and gold glass flecks that are only noticeable when the light hits your nails just right. It is very easy to work with and you only need 2 coats for it to be opaque. Unlike P2’s color victim collection, this one actually lasts for about 4 days. I added a little silver bow on my ring fingers and finished the manicure with a coat of Seche Vite.

Do you like red nail polish?

Nail polish news!

Hey girls! I was just browsing the web about new polishes and I found some exciting news for you!

Now you may have heard this already but China glaze is coming out with a new Holographic nail polish collection! YAY! The downside is that we have to wait until Summer 2013…Oh well, at least we have something to look forward to! This is going to cost a little more than normal China Glaze polishes, probably because it is hard to get the holographic particles in the US. Anyway, Polish Galore has all the details about this and other collections in between now and summer next year so please check out this post for more information and pictures.

Also, OPI just shared this picture on their Facebook page:

They wrote: “We have a VERY special treat in store for all of you this Holiday! In celebration of James Bond’s Golden Anniversary we are releasing our first-ever 18 karat gold leaf top coat “The Man with the Golden Gun”

Inspired by the world of 007, this stunning top coat contains real 18 karat gold and comes packaged in a special limited edition collectable gold bottle – the ultimate holiday gift! Available this October

I’m really excited about all of the new polishes! What do you think about them?

Mint green with white roses

Hey girls!

Today I felt like wearing my favourite colour when it comes to nail polish: mint green! I have several bottles of mint nail polish but they all look different; some look more blue, others are more pale etc. Today I’m showing you China Glaze – Re-fresh Mint. This is a very popular polish for the UP collection that most girls have in their stash. This is a very pale mint colour and definitely more green than blue.

I love pairing mint with roses to give it a vintage look but I already did a look like that a while ago. So I decided to stamp the rose pattern from Konad M63 in white all over my nails. This look is less “in-your-face” and not immediately noticeable but it looks very sophisticated.

Do you like mint green polish?

Sailor tattoo nails

Hey girls!

Today I’m wearing an old-school, sailor tattoo inspired manicure. I wanted to use the Konad Q1 plate and it just screams the word tattoo so I started off by painting my nails with Rimmel – Bare Necessities. Then I used several image plates to create this look:

Lightning bolt, swallows, several stars: Konad Q1
Spiderweb: Bundle Monster BM13
Anchor: Bundle Monster BM08
Diamond: Bundle Monster BM09

First I stamped the bigger designs on my nails and then I randomly used the different stars on the Konad plate to fill up the empty spaces in between. I love this look! My boyfriend is a tattoo fanatic so he really liked it as well.

Also, I reorganised my stash yesterday and made a list of all the polishes I own so if you are interested you can click the "nail polish stash" page above to view the list. I took me a few hours to sort all the brands and names in alfabetical order ( I even fell asleep half way through and didn't feel like doing the rest afterwards, but I had to haha! ) Here's a picture of all the bottles on my desk:

Blue and gold NOTD

Hey girls!

Just a quick NOTD from me today. I was looking through my stash and found this little beauty: Teeez Cool 04. This is a Dutch drugstore brand and to be completely honest, I was drawn to it by the incredibly cute packaging. However, once I wore it I fell in love with this colour! It Is a super bright ice blue. It is very light, leaning a bit towards white but it still definitely looks blue. Although it looks great, it is hard to work with and need lots of clean up afterwards. I wanted to spice it up a little so I decided to try out a plate by Fab ur Nails again, this time QA7. I used China Glaze 2230 for stamping. I love stamping a design at the base of the nail rather than the end of it, I think it looks really flattering.
My cuticles look horrible because of all the acetone to clean up around my cuticles! :( So tonight I'll use an intense hand butter with some gloves to make them nice and soft again.

Where do you like to place your design when you stamp?

Chanel nails 2.0

Hey girls!

Today was my last day of school for this school year and I wanted to wear something bright on my nails for the occasion. ( Also because I’m really looking forward to having a sea of free time the next few weeks! ) I chose to wear Essie – Olé Caliente, a super bright red-leaning coral from their Spring 2012 “Navigate her” collection. Essie has recently become more commercial and is now available at drugstores here and I am very happy this happened! I order most of my polishes online because there aren’t many stores near me that sell high end brands so it is nice to be able to buy nail polish at a store for a change. Anyway, I got new Fab Ur Nails plates a while ago and I hadn’t tried them yet. ( shame on me! ) The plate I used is called FUN 1 and has, amongst other amazing and original designs, a Chanel logo. I already used the Chanel Logo from the Fab Ur Nails QA & OB series but the one on the FUN plate is slightly smaller and has the logo spelled underneath.

This one doesn't do the colour justice but it shows the design better

I used this to “re-create” this manicure I did a while ago. Again, I used China Glaze – 2230 for stamping and stamped the Chanel logo on my middle finger and diagonally stamped the chain design from Bundle Monster Plate BM12 on the other nails.

Because the weather has been so nice here I decided to pose with some roses aswell. Enjoy the weather!

Essence Colour Arts

Hey girls!

I have super exciting news for you! I’m not sure whether you are familiar with the Essence cosmetic brand. They provide super cheap yet super trendy beauty products for everyone to enjoy. Their nail polish line is quite phenomenal, the 5 ml/0.16 oz bottles cost €1,25 and some are even dupes of high end brands (for example: Blue Addicted is a dupe of Deborah Lippmann – Across the Universe) and some high end brands even copy them! (China Glaze – Fast track is a warmer version of Irreplaceable) Essence has a great core collection of polishes and a great collection of nail art and nail care products, and they come out with a lot of limited editions every season. I was browsing Ooh, Shinies! blog and saw that she announced a new limited edition Essence line that will be available around August 2012 (in some countries September).

The “Trend edition” as they call it is called Essence colour arts and it gives you the change to mix your own colours! The collection consists of pure pigment in different colours and finishes (matte, glitter, shiny) and 3 bases to use them:  an eye base, a lip base and (last but definitely not least!) a nail base! The collection will also include clear mixing jars. According to Ooh Shinies! Blog, there will be 15 pigments and it will be a limited edition only. Then I heard that in Germany there will be 20 pigments and it will become part of the core collection! Now for me it doesn’t really matter much: I do all my drugstore shopping in Germany rather than in The Netherlands. However, I would like to know whether there will be a difference between countries.

Okay so on to the thing you have been waiting for: pictures! Please click them to see the bigger versions.

Pigments will be €2,49 each

Lip base €1,79 each

Eye base €1,79 each

Nail base will be €1,59

Multi tasker to mix the pigments €1,29 each

Mixing jars will be €1,29 per 2

Essence Colour Arts will be available in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, South Africa, Slovenia, Lithuania, Russia, UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Tunisia, Kuwait, Uruguay.

I am really excited about these products! What do you think?
